The Starbucks Paddling Shootout will be held at the beautiful Ko Olina Marina and Resort in conjunction with the 2001 Hawaii Boat Show & Ocean Expo http://www.KoOlinaMarina.com/newsletter/show.htm on Saturday May 26th.
The Starbucks Paddling Shootout is a middle distance paddling event featuring One-Person Outrigger Canoe, Surf Ski Kayak and Paddleboard divisions.
The format of this event will consist of competitors being ranked and seeded into first round heats of approximately ten paddlers per heat. Heats will go off the starting line every ten minutes until the first round is completed. Competitors will advance and be seeded into the "money" round by their finish performance in the first round. Prize bonuses will be awarded for fastest times in each division in the first round. The second, or "money" round, will again consist of heats of ten paddlers each with every paddler getting the opportunity to paddle twice. Each participant will be competing against paddlers of their own ability in the money round making for an exiting competitive experience at every level.
Check in will begin at 8:30 am and cut off at 9:30. The first round of racing will begin at 10:00am. The second round will begin at 1:00pm.
The course is a two-mile loop starting at the channel entrance to Ko Olina Marina, traveling north to a buoy off the Iilani Hotel, and returning to the Marina for the finish. The entire course can be viewed from the start finish area located at the Shoreline Park, which is also the site of the Hawaii Boat Show & Ocean Expo.
* The entry fee for each participant will be $15.00 and will include complementary parking, food, T-shirt, insurance and a participant packet with gift certificates and other goodies.
Prize package: Over $5,000.00 in cash and prizes broken down through all divisions.
